Our Availablity list is intended to help guide our customers' selections among our over 400 varieties of Vireya Rhododendrons. Vireyas are relatively new to American gardening and we are constantly observing their colors, habits and growing conditions and evaluating their garden worthiness. We are beginning to select and propagate varieties in larger quantities that are selected for superior flower color, form and ease of cultivation. Of these selected varieties, those we have in greater quantity are listed below by flower color. Generally, customers can order these varieties and we should have stock on hand, though, of course, this will vary from day to day. We will keep this list regularly updated. However, we also propagate many, many varieties in smaller quantities. Please inquire about any variety that interests you. We also do custom propagation of larger quantities and those we do not have on hand.

We are currently growing, in the greenhouse or in the display gardens, over 400 species and hybrid vireya rhododendrons. It is our goal to make available any of these varieties to both our local and worldwide customers. However, the greenhouse is just so big and growing space on our propagation and export benches is always at a premium. We are not able to grow all varieties in large quantities. Luckily however our customers typically focus on a subset of this large number. These varieties have such popular characteristics as richer and more vibrant colors, a larger number of flowers in the truss, or a good-looking growth habit and so forth. Yet we do not want to slight those cutomers that ardently desire a low-demand jewel of a plant or unusual species that have a special place in their gardening endeavors.

So our solution is to grow a small quantity of many varieties and a somewhat larger number of a few. Below is an availability list that is updated from time to time. The cycle time for most vireya cuttings is five to six months for a nice rooted cutting (this may vary by variety) and twelve to eighteen months for a plant reasonably sized for shipping and for the landscape or sunroom. We do have larger sizes at the nursery. And, to add to all the other uncertainties, we occasionally are surprised by a large order for one variety and run out quickly!

Please check out our catalog and select the colors or growth habits or whatever characteristics you might be looking for. Then send us an email listing what you are after and we will respond promptly. Most often we will have nice plants of the varieties you are looking for. If not, many vireya varieties have similar characteristics (see our Lists) and we will nearly always have a substitute on hand. And if we don't, or you wish to order a larger number of less expensive plants, consider placing an order for rooted cuttings in early fall (Northern hemisphere) for delivery in the spring, just like planning your spring seed order for the garden.
